Mental Health Awareness - Diagnosis
Can I just say, getting to the doctors took me a long time, I had actually booked and then cancelled about 12 appointments, due to tremendous fear, "Where do I even begin with this doctor?" "What do I say, what am I even worried about, am I just crazy?"
Diagnosis
So when it finally got too much and I became tremendously concerned about my train of thought, frequent worry for every and anything and my constant low days, oh and literally hyping myself up daily, saying "I can do this", I took myself to my GP, (who, can I just say was amazing,) she watched me BALL my eyes out and struggle to get words out because I was that hysterical for around, 40 straight minutes.
Ever cried so much that you struggle to even breathe normally? Yep, that sort of crying.
Finally, after calming down, I was asked routine questions, (asked to anyone who is worrying about their mental health) to, in a sense determine your "mood" levels - low to high, for example "how often have you been bothered by feeling bad about yourself, or that you are a failure, or have let yourself or your family down?". I had to rate how I was feeling, from 0-3, (0 being "not at all" and 3 being "nearly every day") after collating my answers my GP diagnosed me with Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD) and moderate levels of Depression. She had said that my levels weren't high enough to need any form of tablets; but I would need to see a counsellor or therapist, which I was referred to.
I was also given this booklet to help me until my counselling started. The booklet has numbers that I could contact out of hours if I was having a down day or having an anxiety attack, as well as mental health courses and groups set up by my local council.
